C A M P at M.A.M.

The Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance (HCAA) is joining the Miami Art Museum (MAM) this summer to organize a series of art workshops for youth in the Little Haiti area.  This venture is part of MAM’s yearly MAM in the Neighborhood educational programming series. MAM is stepping out of its exhibition space, collaborating with community-based organizations such as the HCAA, and transporting the art-thinking process into the community. In an effort to bring art to the backyards of students in the area the HCAA will continue to bring together the Caribbean community and art institutions.

HCAA makes a great effort to archive and promote breakthrough Afro-Caribbean Art. Moreover, we also feel it is crucial cultivate it! This will primarily be done by providing the Afro-Caribbean youth first-hand exposure to art museums and fine art institutions. Collaborating with local museums and art spaces allows HCAA to be a bridge between the difficult to reach afro Caribbean community and art institutions.  Art education is an integral part of development.  Exposure to art and how it reflects culture is critical to the advancement of Afro Caribbean youth.

The activities of this program will take place every Friday during the month of July between the hours of 11am – 2pm. Art teachers, provided by the Museum, will  meet with the students at the Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance to engage in various activities accompanied by private tours of the Miami Art Museum.

The Haitian Cultural Arts Alliance would like to invite all summer schools, camps, YMCA’s, and related summer programs for students from grades 5 – 12th in the Little Haiti, Edison, and Overtown area to join us in this inspiring program. We keenly ask that you collaborate with us simply by taking one day out of your program to bring your groups to our center.
