Our small inventory of books is a means by which we try to raise money for our organization. We have a collection of books that exhibits the visual and literary arts influenced by Haiti and Afro Caribbean culture. Other books have been added in support of Haitian authors and/or its reference to Haiti. In conjunction with museums and galleries, we have also produced a series of catalogs on Haitian artists in order to document their milestone exhibits. We hope to continue this method, for we think it is an essential part of our mission; to support breakthrough Afro Caribbean artists while being a source for such information. Thus, please support us by purchasing from our collection. If you have any inquiries about any books or would like to make an order please contact us via email ( sales@haitianalliance.org ) with the name of the book/item, quantity, and your ship to address. A staff agent will reply within 24 business hrs with total cost including shipping and handling if necessary. |

The Armorial of Haiti: Symbols of Nobility in the Reign of Henry Christophe
Description: In 1804, after more than a decade of violent rebellion and war, the state of Haiti was born. Many of the leaders of the nation were ex-slaves who had fought for liberty and independence under Toussaint Louverture. Within four years the new country had split in two, and in 1811 Henry Christophe, the ruler of the northern part, made himself king and appointed a new nobility from his leading supporters. The Manuscript published in this book is a rare and beautiful survival: a volume depicting in bold, colourful, systematic and studious detail, the coats of arms of King Henry's nobility. It will fascinate anyone intersted in heraldic art and design, in monarchial and national symbolism, or in the history of the Caribbean and the aftermath of slavery.

Divine revolution: The Art of Edouard Duval-Carrie Author: Introductory note by Donald J. Cosentino Publisher: UCLA Fowler Museum of Cultural History, Los Angeles, 2005 Paperback: 68 pages ISBN: 0-9748729-1-1 Language: English Book Description:Born in Port-au-Prince in 1954, Haitian artist Edouard Duval-Carrie studied in Canada and at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris before settling in Miami where he continues to live and work. Divine Revolution presents sequined banners, canvases with ornate frames, and a dramatic altar, all demonstrating the profound influence of Vodou and Haiti’s complex cultural and political history. These works range in subject matter from celebrations and chronicles of the Haitian Revolution to examinations of the current plight of Haiti and its people. Duval-Carrie's art reveals a side of the Haitian experience that is not evident on the nightly news. The surreal starlit journeys of the Vodou deities and spirits who populate his paintings, juxtaposed with his carnivalesque portrayals of oppressive colonial and contemporary regimes, offer insight into the paradoxes of Haitian existence and the ambivalent nature of power itself, as well as a vision of the integrity of Haiti's ritual and spiritual practices. amazon |
